The Changan US Research and Development Center, a subsidiary of Changan Automobile in Chongqing, China, began operations in January 2011 in Plymouth, Michigan. It was the first R&D center to be established by a Chinese automaker in Michigan, and has demonstrated the ability of a Chinese company to leverage local talent for innovation. Focusing on chassis and on autonomous and automated technologies, Changan’s R&D facility has hired more than 50 Michigan engineers and continues to expand. In the process, Changan has enjoyed the support and partnership of the State of Michigan and of Wayne County.
