The State of Michigan is celebrating Michigan China Week from May 6-9, 2018, in the cities of Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids. Government and business delegations from six of Michigan’s partner provinces in China—Guangdong, Sichuan, Hebei, Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang— will travel to Michigan to attend this bilateral exchange.

During Michigan China Week, we will celebrate Michigan’s relationships with our partners in China, welcome our Chinese partners to Michigan, and lay a foundation for continuing collaboration between Michigan and important regions of China.

Michigan China Week Welcome Cruise on the Detroit River

The Michigan-China business community will welcome the Chinese business and government delegations for a scenic welcome cruise on the Detroit River. The welcome cruise is designed to introduce Detroit, America’s Comeback City, to our visiting guests and spark new connections between our two regions.

Michigan China Business Summit

The Michigan China Business Summit will connect Chinese companies who are considering job-creating investments in Michigan with the resources they need to succeed. Covering topics from Michigan’s general business environment to specific concerns about searching for sites and estimating operating costs, guest speakers will impart a wealth of information about doing business in Michigan.

After attending breakout panels on legal, banking, and tax considerations for investing in Michigan, companies will have the opportunity to network with Michigan companies in mobility, IoT, food processing, medical devices, and more.

CEOs Business Roundtable

Governor Rick Snyder will host CEOs and senior government officials from the Chinese delegation and senior members of the Michigan business community to discuss the Michigan-China business relationship.

Michigan has always been the leader of the automotive industry, and as vehicle and mobility technologies continue to evolve in amazing ways, Michigan is continuing to lead the way into the future of mobility.

Our delegations from China will have the opportunity to visit two of the nation’s leading autonomous vehicle testing sites, Mcity at the University of Michigan and the American Center for Mobility, and see how Michigan is shaping the future of transportation.

Michigan-China Industry and Innovation Dialogue

The lessons of Michigan’s comeback story are of great interest to economic policymakers in China’s northeastern provinces of Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang. Senior policymakers from Michigan and China will engage in a working discussion, facilitated by the University of Michigan’s Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies, on both sides’ experiences with industrial upgrading.

Startups and VCs Innovation Summit

A delegation of startups from China organized by TUS Group, one of China’s largest venture capital and incubation institutions, will connect with players in Ann Arbor’s world class startup ecosystem. TusLink, a TUS Group subsidiary, will connect the visiting Chinese start-ups with Michigan start-ups and venture capital funds.

Grand Rapids Industry Tours

Located between Chicago and Detroit in western Michigan, Grand Rapids is Michigan’s second largest city, and the urban center of a growing region of more than 1 million people. Chinese companies will have the opportunity to explore three of West Michigan’s top industries—IoT, food processing, and medical devices – through company visits and business networking meetings.

Governor’s Michigan China Week Closing Reception and Dinner

Governor Rick Snyder will formally conclude Michigan China Week with remarks and a farewell banquet for our Chinese delegations, co-hosted with members of the West Michigan business community.
